What are probiotics?


Probiotics are the "friends" of your gut. You want them, trust me. They keep the yeast away and fight off the bad bacteria in your gut, that way it's harder for the bad bacteria to make you sick. The way I see it, in our gut we have over 500 different types of bacteria. And WAIT, before you think bacteria as all bad, it's NOT! Our gut actually Needs good bacteria. If we don't have enough good bacteria, then problems are likely to occur in our bodies. Good bacteria can help with Bad Breath, Stomach Aches, Yeast Infections, Disease and other problems!

 

WHERE ARE THEY FOUND?

Kefir, Fermented Foods (vegetables that have been pickled, i.e pickles, fermented olives, sauerkraut) Yogurt, Acidophilus 

 

WHY DO I NEED THEM?

A healthy gut leads to a happy body!! "80% of your Immune System lives in your gut" Dr. Mercola says in his article "Help Support Your Immune System with Probiotics". Crazy, I know. So what does this mean? It means, eating these probiotics will strengthen your immune system (which helps protect you from getting sick!) and make your insides very happy.

Watch out for the items listed below! (They kill GOOD Bacteria)

  • Antibiotics. If it's necessary to take them, make sure to eat lots of fermented foods and kefir.
  • Conventionally-raised Meats and other animal products. Meats from animals that have been squished together in a small unsanitary, unclean areas. Often times they are fed antibiotics and hormones to make them grow bigger and faster. They also are fed GMO food.
  • Processed foods. Eating homemade is always better due to the hidden ingredients in processed foods, such as surprisingly large amounts of sugar.
